the itch for twitch

An interview with Robyn of Twitch Vintage:

Twitch Vintage

So, I'm kind of in love with this girl, shhh don't tell her boyfriend. I don't quite remember how I stumbled upon Robyn's blog, but I was immediately drawn in by her sharp, sarcastic wit, relatable sense of style, and gorgeous curly hair! You know what they say, grass is always greener on the other side- this is coming from the girl who needs an entire can of hairspray to get curls to stay. Since then, I have enjoyed following her blog and life happenings and buying a couple things from her ebay shop along the way. The girl's got good taste.

I wish I lived closer to Florida, I think we would have a lot of fun. Sipping beers or some ridiculous fruity, girly drink and cracking jokes (legal in SIX months, might as well be an eternity). Is that weird to say? It's so strange online because you feel like you know people so well and yet have never met face-to-face. Do you guys well the same way? Anyway, I'm not sure how much of my personality comes through on the blog, but I have a very sarcastic sense of humor. A good friend of mine here was telling me how she has to get readjusted to me every time we come back to campus haha otherwise, she forgets and takes the jokes personally. I may be small, but do not be deceived.

Drumroll please! And here's our interview:

1. How did you get interested in blogging?

I was a blog lurker long before I started my own blog. I decided to start my own to promote my eBay shop, and to connect with the blogs I was already reading.

2. What is your thrift shopping plan of attack? I tend to get really overwhelmed in places like Goodwill.

I am a crazy tornado in thrift stores. I wish I had the patience to go through the racks piece by piece, but it's just not my style. Basically I go through each section way too fast, grabbing anything that catches my eye for any reason, and throw it in my cart. I don't bother to check condition, size, or price until I am done with the whole store and standing in front a of a mirror. I end up putting a lot back, but it's effective.

3. If you could steal anyone’s closet (present or past) whose would it be?

My great grandmother had a shoe collection that would make a grown woman cry. She believed that a woman needed a pair of shoes for every single outfit. My hero.

4. When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? And now?

I've always been a math geek. I knew I wanted to work with numbers or money for a long time, and ended up going to college for Statistics and Mathematics. Now I want to sell vintage, blog, and someday start a family.

5. What do you do from 9-5?

I am a full time eBay vintage seller and blogger. The hours extend way past 9-5, but most fun jobs do.

6. If you could have any one talent that you do not already possess, what would it be?

I would love to be able to dance gracefully. My signature (drunken) dance move was once likened to "a baby bird stuck in a car." Now I don't know what that means, but I do know that it's probably not good.

7. If your house caught on fire, what would be the first thing you would grab?

I will say my Macbook, but I'd probably just make a run for it with nothing. My house is so full of flammable polyester that speed would be a priority.

8. What are your top 5 can’t live without pieces of clothing?

I'm a sucker for V neck T shirts, high waisted shorts, maxi skirts, trench coats, and the perfect jeans.

9. What is your proudest blogging achievement/moment?

There was a tiny photo of me in the January 2011 issue of Glamour Magazine. It was nice to have something tangible to show my friends who don't read blogs.

10. What is your best piece of advice to bloggers?

Less is more. If you are writing about something that you are truly passionate about, then go ahead and write an essay on your blog. If you are writing about your outfit, then more than a paragraph is really unnecessary.

11. Where do you hope to be in 5 years (physically, professionally, mentally, whatever-ly)?

Professionally: I'd actually love to still be selling vintage online, and blogging. I'm done with school, and I love my job. I see plenty of from for growth and improvement, but I really have no major overhauls in place.
Physically: Let's pretend I'm going to take up jogging.
Personally: I love my boyfriend. Fingers crossed he's still around.

Thanks so much Robyn! Hope you all enjoyed this as much as I did.

PS. Sorry in advance for any M.I.A-ness, it's finals time aka I'm barely staying afloat in a seemingly endless ocean of paper and flashcards.

hot, hot, heat

009b

Well friends, it's that time again. Monday, you always show up early. I had a nice weekend though, nothing too earth shattering- ate some good food, thai, froyo, omelets. Spent some time with friends. Worked on my paintings. This is the final push, I have four paintings due on Thursday and have managed to semi-complete 2 of them in the past 4 days or so. We're kicking into high gear ladies and gentlemen!

Right now I'm about ready to pass out. I'm always a little more tired when I wear heels, is that pathetic? It just uses a totally different group of muscles and I think my ankles are comparatively weak. It also got quite hot today! Felt like summer.

Any Gossip Girl fans?? Finally a new episode! What is wrong with these people? They love to take these unexpected, uncalled for breaks from the season. I'm not watching tonight though, I'm waiting to watch with my friend Susan tomorrow when she has more time, so don't tell me anything! I'm a huge stickler for that kind of thing.

There was this girl in high school we shall remain nameless who was quiet as a mouse, literally never heard a word out of her. Then during the first week of school in lit class, we had to tell everybody our favorite book and why as an icebreaker. So, she proceeds to say that her favorite book is My Sister's Keeper because the ending is so unexpected, what ends up happening is: ___________. I was in the middle of reading that book and was agitated to say the least! Bahh I hate when people do that. There was no emotional distress for me at the end because I knew what was coming all along. Reading is one of my most favorite things to do because you become immersed in this world in which you feel like you know these characters. Everything comes to life and you find yourself growing attached to them. Has anyone ever spoiled a book/movie for you?

I've got a slip on underneath this which does double duty. Both the shirt and the skirt are quite sheer so it worked out nicely. I should probably look into getting just a skirt slip though. Any suggestions for where to find one?

Well I think that about sums it up for now!
Hope Monday was kind to you.

Until next time!

Oh and PS. Maria from First Impressions did an interview with me, head on over if you'd like to check it out! She's a sweetheart and we've been having a good time emailing back and forth.

pony up

009b

Snagged these with probably the last half an hour or so of light left. I love the longer days of spring and summer, you just have so much more time to do things. Things are winding down here, about three weeks left of school and that includes finals and what not. I know I've talked about this before, but it is still one of the strangest paradoxes to me- how time can speed by and crawl at the same time. Another year has hurled past us, and eeek what?? in the fall, I will be a senior. Ugh real world, can I please put you off a little longer?

Got a phone call today from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society about an internship that I applied for, and have an interview scheduled for when I get home. Hopefully I will get that one or another non-profit organization, Strength whose goal is to eradicate child hunger and malnutrition in the U.S. by 2015, lofty goal! So anyway wish me luck that I'm employed this summer! haha wouldn't that be great?

015b

So, my camera strap accidentally got in the way on this one, but we can just pretend it's an artsy vignette right? haha well, not too much else to report. But I did want to say thank you, thank you, thank you! I had the most comments that I've ever had on my last post. Thank you for all the support you guys- it really does mean so much to me. I really love blogging and with your help, am thrilled to keep doing it!

This was a pretty perfect outfit for today, we were in the low seventies. It started cooling off toward the end of the day, so I was definitely glad to have longer sleeves. Spring can be sort of tricky to dress for with all the temperature fluctuations, but this one was a winner. What have you been wearing for spring?

021b

And for now, I'll leave you with some action shots! These are my 'yay I got antibiotics' dance photos. The other day I was talking to my good friend and I told him to cross his fingers for me about the antibiotics and he said, ok I'll do an amoxicillin dance for you. My reply was, Oh wow, now I know we're friends. haha gosh, isn't that what friends are for? Wishing you speedy, drug-aided recoveries?

Adios for now!

the fading sky

008b

Oh man you guys, we made it to the weekend! I have to say I was skeptical that I would. Today- success! Knocked out a philosophy test AND was prescribed codeine for my cough, major score. The drowsiness hasn't hit me quite yet. Oh wait, actually maybe it is. Anyway I couldn't fall asleep last night because I wouldn't quit coughing! Don't you hate that? When you are willing yourself to do something and it has absolutely no effect- the worst.

But, that's all irrelevant now because we have two beautiful days to look forward to! Hopefully I'll get to take it easy this weekend work-wise. And tomorrow I'm going on a photo adventure with some friendsies from Wake. Maybe some potential slight trespassing? There's this dock that I've seen and am not sure how to get to. We'll see, we'll try to stay within the law.

034b

Tonight was perfect, hung out with the boy, dressed up, my friend's boyfriend (Chris- find him here), a super photographer, although he'll probably tell you otherwise (don't let him fool you) took some quick photos for me (so much faster than tripod-ing! amazing) and then went to a yummy dinner at Macaroni Grill with my girls. Now I'm sitting here blogging and eating Haagen-Dazs ice cream.
Does it get any better?

come out of the shade

015b

It definitely feels like spring today, bordering on summer really. The weather is continuing to be really finicky though, I heard it's supposed to be cooler again tomorrow. And yes, I'm 90 years old and talk about the weather. I guess because I don't have anything too thrilling to report from the weekend. I've been trying to take it easy, fighting off some sort of cold/allergy thing. I did get to go to an Explosions in the Sky concert last night with my boy in Charlotte! It was amaaaazing, definitely surpassed my expectations. Unless you have a ridiculous sound system, you really can't get that all encompassing feeling that you get at a concert. The drive was nice, a beautiful sunset and we even got back at a reasonable time, 12: 30 ishh.

Trucking along, the school year is quickly winding down. I don't know where the time went. Going to take a power nap, happy Monday everyone!

It's sort of strange trying to figure out what to wear during spring because the temperature fluctuates so much within a given day. Grabbed some layers this morning since it was a little chilly, but definitely was peeling things off by midday. It's always pretty cold in some of the academic buildings- I think they've already switched over to A/C?

Another way I wore the dress here and another way I wore the chambray shirt here!
