sun shakedown

036b

My apologies for the long absence, I've been itching to get out and take some pichas for you but I have literally been going nonstop since June 1st! Being a real adult kind of blows I have to say. Well not that I didn't already know this, but 9 to 5 trying to battle DC area traffic with an hour and a half commute, well you can imagine. I was talking to one of my fav girls about this and she said, "Well it will make you stronger... or angry." hahah we've yet to see which one of the two it will be, but it's definitely going to be one or the other.

The work itself is extremely rewarding though, I'm really enjoying it. I'm interning with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and my momma died of lymphoma so it's empowering to do something about it. Cancer really is the least discriminating disease. It doesn't matter whether you are 2 years old or 90, male or female, black, white, brown, affluent or struggling. Cancer doesn't care. But in a way I think that is what makes it strangely beautiful, it is able to reach across the divisions we create among ourselves and set people ablaze with a common passion. Have you or someone you know been affected by cancer? I think at one point or another it touches us all.

I'm also taking a GRE prep course, taking the exam in July. It's an exhausting combo-work & school- and a really long day when I have class. I wake up at 5:30 am and don't get home until 10:30 at the earliest. But hey, these two things are both really great opportunities. I have nothing to complain about, plus I think my body is getting more accustomed to the new schedule. How is your summer going? I would love to hear about that too! I can live vicariously through you and pretend that the highlight of my day is not getting to go to bed early hehe :)

So I've been dying to wear this dress for a long time and finally got the chance today. It's from an adorable etsy shop, Qs Daydreams. Aren't the buttons darling?

You look lovely!
I know what you mean about the crazy schedule but the fact that you're doing stuff your passionate about makes it worth it and so much more rewarding! I was just talking to a friend today about so many of my friends who have graduated and are either getting jobs or internships and they arent happy or passionate about the work they're doing. It makes me so sad for them.
I hope you're able to find some time to rest!

These photos are GORGEOUS, as are you! I love the lighting, and the blue of your dress playing off the green grass. :)

I'm glad to hear that things have been going well with your internship and school, despite it being very busy.

I love the new layout! It just has a more clean feel {not like it didn't before, haha, just more so now} and since you have one sidebar now, it gives more focus for the pictures.

wow, you seem like a busy lady! and you're right - DC traffic is awful.

it's so nice to hear that other bloggers volunteer, too (especially for a cause that obviously means so much to you).

Adore this dress! I've got to check them out on etsy. Just saw your reader spotlight on the Delightful Dozen and had to stop by. Love the tights and how you remixed them.

Cancer is a strange disease, picking even the healthiest of folks...I think it is wonderful that you are pursuing this field. Good luck with

Whoaaaa! These pictures are amazing!!!! I love that location. It kind of reminds me of Idaho, my home! Yay!!! That dress is beautiful.

I think what you're doing is amazing. My aunt was diagnosed with liver and colon cancer last October. She has a few months left and she's stopped treatment. Keep at it :)

Just lovely! The dress has the sweetest details, including those little buttons on the back. Also really great to hear that you are volunteering at the Leukemia and Cancer Society. My father passed away from lung cancer and I think that volunteering is so very important. Good luck with the GREs :-) xx

Your dress is adorable. I love how it has a low back and a high front. I recently wore a blue and white flowered dress and I'm a huge fan of the combo.

I think it's really cool you're doing something you're so passionate about. I've had some more distant relatives die from cancer but I haven't been extremely personally touched by it but I know people who have been.

Those stripe socks are so cute! They add a little quirk to your darling outfit!

DC traffic is the worst, but I'm so glad battling it is worth it for you to do the work you do. All of your hard work is going to pay off. I just know it!
