catch the trade winds in your sails.

IMG_3726

WOO for Friday! All though I'm being the lamest creature and staying in- baking my tri, quatro (?) berry pie, watching Bones, and reading Harry Potter/Cat's Cradle/possibly starting Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Is that bad? haha sometimes I feel like I'm 90 years old. With my back, I certainly feel like one.

Oui vey, I hope you guys are out there living it up for me!! Do it up :] I'll bottle all my party hardy for Spain! I guess I should probably devote a legitimate post to that, I'll be in Spain for the fall semester (September through December) and will be doing outfit posts from there! Can't wait to share all my adventures with you.

love this skirt to death. I've worn it with a million different things and the best part is, I got it on sale for something ridiculous like 10 bucks.

I'm about due for another pair. I think this will be my fourth or fifth pair. There are little oil paint dots on them too because I painted in them all year and I am not the world's neatest painter. Once I get in my zone, I'm really kind of messy and impulsive. Not that this has anything to do with anything.

Anyway, I feel like this is turning into weird, nonsensical rambling, so I'm going to go make my pie! But, have a wonderful, wonderful Friday!

Oh and ps. Here's another way I wore the skirt, you can see more here :]

red, she said.

IMG_3634

Look at me, I'm on a roll with blog posting! I had a little pocket of time between getting home from my doctor's appt & going out to dinner, so I grabbed my tripod and got to it.

I love all the looks bloggers have been posting with red lipstick and thought I'd give it a whirl. I don't think this is really the perfect shade for me, but I have it because I was Snow White for a theme party- so you know, just repurposing. I'd really like to buy a coral, slightly orangey shade, but I get so overwhelmed with the lipstick displays! It's like do I want Cherry Red or True Red? Or Bombshell or Classic? What do these things even mean? They should give you little sample mini lipsticks like perfume samples. Just little itty bitty ones and then you could try them out.

Doggy jumped in for the first one, managed to scoot her over out of the picture for the second. She was getting annoyed with me for not letting her back into the A/C. Such a spoiled dog, but we love err!

IMG_3655
I LOVE this belt, I would probably wear it everyday if I could. It used to be my mom's when she was younger and she passed down all of these old belts to me when she was going through her closet. The leather is worn in to perfection and I like that it can give an outfit a little more visual interest or dress it down like with a skirt and nice top. I'll definitely be wearing this belt until it falls apart. That will be a sad, sad day like losing an old friend. I'll have to buy a new one and wear it in!

Welp, that's all for now. I found out today that I have a herniated disk in my lower back, so I'm not supposed to be in the same position "posture" for more than an hour. It's actually starting to hurt now :[ so I'm going to go walk around or lay down. So much for a calm, relaxing week haha. But, hey life is always unpredictable. I hope your week is going better than mine!

breath deep

IMG_3540

The week is off to a rough start, been a little blue. But, I'm just trying to stay busy with things I like to do- made my daddyo dinner tonight and am planning on baking a 4 berry pie tomorrow! Blueberries, strawberries, blackberries & raspberries. I'm more than excited about eating this pie. PLUS I bought Vanilla Bean ice cream to go with it- an absolute must have. YAYYA

Anywho, this is one of my all time favorite pieces of clothing. It was a birthday gift from one of my very best friends and it's so 'me'- she knows me well. Do you have an item of clothing that you feel just reflects you? I don't even know if this makes sense haha but I feel the dress was made for me. I love that it incorporates a mixture of prints, fabrics and structures. The bodice is really structured/fitted and the zipper toughens it up a bit which creates the perfect balance for the super feminine, flowy bottom. (side note: is flowy not actually a word?, my life is a lie)

Me trying to tackle my dog/coerce her into being a picture with me. I'm telling you, she is photo-shy- it's the most bizarre thing.

I really love this socks with shoes trend, I'm not sure I really got it quite right here, but I'll keep trying! Lusting after many, many pairs of shoes. What's your number one must-have for fall this year?

Oh and I forgot to mention the title of this entry comes from a song by The Ditty Bops called Wake Up
Here's the ending section of the lyrics where the title comes from. I like to think of them as calming little reminders when things aren't going smoothly.

Breath deep
Speak out
Make up your mind
Be brave
Follow your dreams
Listen to your heart
Close your eyes to make a wish.

Wishing you a calm, enjoyable week!

it's never black & white

IMG_3533

It was raining cats and dogs today. Our power flickered on and off a few times, but luckily no power lines went down & it stayed on for the rest of the day. But, since I wasn't able to take any outfit pictures, just snapped this in my room. I like the way the shadows and light seem to sort of dance together.

I've basically spent all day in bed reading Vonnegut's Cat's Cradle. The rest of my weekend was a bit more exciting though- have at least 10 bug bites just from taking the pictures below, went berry picking! (blackberries for a pie) and night swimming & saw some friends that I haven't seen in years.

How was your weekend? :] Monday, here we come! I'm actually ready to go back to work tomorrow, how weird is that?

we are golden.

IMG_3450

Holy guacamole! It is 97 degrees here with 59430942% humidity. I was sweating taking these pictures. This is one hot, hot summer. But on another note, I just saw Inception! I really enjoyed it. Alot of the time I seek movies for escapism and easy laughs, but every now and then it's fun to be completely submerged into a story line; when I left the theatre, I still felt like I was in the movie's world & I had a headache that's how hard I was thinking! Leo was excellent and Joseph Gordon-Levitt is the cutest thing in the world. Gosh, I think it's his smile that gets me- that crooked, half-smile that boys do, you know what I mean? Maron Cotillard was great also, not to mention she's drop dead gorgeous. Blue eyes & brown hair is my favorite.

Anyway, I'll stop talking. Here are some more pictures!

IMG_3465

I love the back of this dress, but I accidentally stuck it in the dryer and ever since haven't been able to wear it because it's too short. However, it's perfect for wearing underneath a skirt because it's really form-fitting so it doesn't create bulk.

IMG_3524

It looks like I'm disappearing! Haha it was on a really low shutter speed. I was running to different spots of light which were few and far between as the sun started setting. I love the light here, but I'm kind of mad at myself for not taking the time to focus where I was standing. Should have grabbed a stick or something, what I really need to do is buy a remote.

TGIF! Have a wonderful weekend.

shoulda put a ring on it.

Ohh Beyonce, you tell em girl. But actually, I wouldn't mind
having someone to buy me a ring haha isn't that awful?
I am lusting after quite a few lately!

Here's some of my favorites:

Rebecca of The Clothes Horse wears rings so well.
I think this is where my newfound love for rings started. I've noticed
knuckle rings are becoming popular, they look so elegant but I think
I'd get annoyed that I couldn't bend my finger!

Skeleton Key Ring by annekiel, $78 Etsy

Crystalised Ring, $23.99 ModCloth

& I love this one Tieka is wearing. ShopRuche, $18.99

I like how something so little can add so much! Sorry this post
has super skinny substance, but outfit post coming asap!
It's hump day- as in over the hump, Wednesday! 3 down, 2 to go.

Goodnight :]]

rainy day

IMG_3351_2 IMG_3350_2
Forecast for this week: Rain, rain, more rain, and then some rain. Snuck these pictures in just before it started drizzling.

IMG_3357_2

This is a part of my backyard that goes unexplored because it's at the edge of our property and there are alot of rocks, mud, yucky stuff, etc. But, it's really very pretty after you get the hang of maneuvering and picking out the unstable rocks. Two seconds before this photos, I was unceremoniously flinging my body up onto this ledge haha. Self-timer really is the biggest adventure! I almost fell 49320 times and same with my tripod. At least there's never a dull moment!

IMG_3367_2 IMG_3399
shirt: gap / silk cami: ann taylor loft / pearl necklace: j.crew outlet / locket: grandma's, family heirloom / belt: mom's, hand-me-down / pink skirt:UO / lace skirt: handmade from petticoat / shoes: keds

Bad tripod set-up, cut out my face in this one- but I think it kind of works?

I like the idea of mixing patterns but haven't been adventurous enough to do something really crazy bold. But, I like this subtle mix- the pinstripe of the shirt becomes secondary to the pattern of the skirt. I think that's the key to pattern mixing- letting one pattern be the dominant one and the others are there to complement it. Or doing pieces in the same family color can work as a harmonizer.

Onward to Tuesday! Hope you had a super day errrbody. :)

Dog days of summer

IMG_3259

Today was just one of those days, you know- where everything goes wrong? So, I was so excited about taking pictures today that I spent far too much time outside changing tripod locations & trying to coerce my dog into being in pictures that I was super late leaving for my MRI appointment!.. as in, I was supposed to be there at 6 15 and didn't leave my house until 6 05-ish. The MRI is for my back, they think I might have a squished disc thingy.

So anywho, I'm super stressing about being late and in my haste to be on time, I lock my keys in the car. That is not the best part, wait for it.. and the car is running.. with the A/C on. Yes, it just keeps getting better. So, now- I am late for my dr's appt & I have a car just burning gas away like it is its job. The doctor was the nicest man ever and I couldn't have lucked out more. Plus, he had a british accent! An added bonus :) No, but really, he let me call AAA and had the receptionist look out for the mechanic. Apparently, AAA misunderstood me though & cancelled my knight in shining armor, so I had to wait for a half an hour in this random parking lot. It could have been alot worse honestly, but I was just so exasperated with myself. That split second after you slam the door shut- it's like noooooooooooo. slow mo, big time.

Sorry had to get that rant out there. I called AAA to complain about it and I felt bad for the poor guy on the phone, it wasn't his fault and he couldn't do anything about it. I calmed down and apologized and he was a whole lot more friendly after that.

Well, without further ado- here are some of the pictures I took. Hope you guys enjoy them! And
here's to hoping tomorrow goes a little smoother! ps. I'd love to compiserate and hear your ohhh-crap-I-just-did-that stories. (Side Note) I tried to get my dog to cooperate for this but she is camera shy. I swear to you! Whenever she hears the camera do its little clicking noise when it's focusing she turns her head away. It's like she's one of those girls who hates the camera and flings her hand up every time it gets near. I'll try to snag a better one for you sometime.

Dress: BP. Nordstrom, Shoes: Gap

This is one of my favorite go to dresses, it's so, so comfy. I've worn it so much that it has the beginnings of those weird fuzzy cotton balls on the butt. I always get compliments on this dress which kind of befuddles me because it's such a simple style. But, maybe it is its simplicity that people like? I decided not to wear any accessories with it so that this post would just be about the dress.

Peace out :) And holler for two more days until Fridaaay Friday Friday!

busy bee

IMG_3226
New sweater from where else? Urban, duh. I went a tinsy bit nuts in Baltimore. It's just that we don't have one near where I live so I usually don't get the opportunity. Right? That can be my justification? So, this is what I wore to work today. Literally Excel is my least favorite thing in the entire world. I don't have enough energy to rant about it though because all of the life has been sucked out of me. I swear that program is the devil.

IMG_3185

I gotta make this snappy because I should actually already be on my way to the movies now! woooops my friends are going to be annoyed. ahhh I think one of them is texting me right now. We're seeing Eclipse! Hollllerrrr. Jacob Black, marry me? Let the haters hate. Playas they gonna play. That's my nugget of wisdom for the day brought to you by Destiny's Child.

Oh man!! Ran out of download space on flickr. Going to have to finish this post when I get back.

This is a 2-day part post. Oh man, Eclipse was actually good! I can't believe it. There were only two times I wanted to laugh when it was supposed to be a serious moment, compare that to twilight and that's one hell of an improvement. So, I'm Team Jacob all the way. What are you? (Assuming you're dorky enough to be into this series like I am..)

IMG_3214
haha this picture. I was trying to get a close-up of the sweater, so you could see the cute little bees! Look at my face, why does it look so angry? I swear to you this is my neutral face. I wish it was a bit more friendly looking.

IMG_3231
re-reading Harry Potter for the billionth time. my little magazine closet wall in the background, the border is movie tickets. Need to add my Eclipse one!

Side note: Taking pictures of myself feels so weird! Like myspace gone wrong. The downside of self-timer is that it takes awhile before it actually takes the picture, so I get in my head too much and change my facial expression and feel awkward and unnatural. I wish it was a little more spontaneous. But, I just wanted to show you this CoverGirl lip stain, it's so good! It gives you just a little natural color and it stays on all day. At first, it might look kind of crazy- the colors are really intense, but it fades as the day goes on until it's just a little different than your natural lip color. I highly suggest it!

Hasta! And I'd love to hear your thoughts on the epic Team Jacob vs. Team Edward battle :) I am a 5th grader.

Pop of Color

IMG_3161

It was a rainy, gray day today. And work dragged on forever & I even left early! I swear to you Excel is the devil. It messes with me just for the fun of it. The rain does have this beauty about it though. Everything looks more interesting when it's covered with little droplets.

IMG_3155 IMG_3150

Decided to give shooting outside another go. Had a few mishaps along the way- my tripod fell over (see picture on the right!). But luckily it fell into a bush so it wasn't a hard fall. If it had gone the other direction, it would have smashed into the concrete. Oui, I can't even think about that possibility without crying a little on the inside. Self-timer in itself is an adventure, running back and forth- trying to get the focus right and the lighting. I'm sure if someone was watching me they'd think I was crazy.. like my neighbors? haha yikes.

I just bought this skirt the other day at Urban Outfitters. The longer length is really refreshing, most of the skirts I own are minis. Oh and I'd like to apologize for the UO heaviness of the blogging, but I can't help myself! I'm literally a 5 year old in a candy shop. It's dangerous. I walk in and I just tunnel vision straight to the things that catch my eye, no rack goes unexplored. It's kind of like a mini adventure. But anywho, I also really like the vibrant color of it. I don't usually go for things this bright, but I like it with the neutrals. I'm barefoot in the pictures, but I wore it with brown gladiator-ish sandals today (oh, and another battle wound- 2 splinters! ouch). I was all "ohh barefoot will look whimsical"..bad idea, Amelia.
