back to school

018b

It's that time of year again. Isn't it strange how we move in these patterns?  It makes time seem more cyclical than linear.

Well, I am a senior. What a surreal sentence! I swear it was yesterday that I showed up scared out of my mind, I didn't sleep a wink or relax for a minute of our long 7 hour drive down. My thoughts were too busy racing around trying to predict what college would be like.

And now I'm an old foggie about to leave this place! It's been a wonderful four years, I wouldn't trade it for anything. Can't say it was all rainbows & butterflies by any means but wouldn't that just be boring?

Ok enough procrastination, it's too early in the year for Senioritis! Actually I'm feeling pretty motivated and refreshed after the summer. Let's get down to business.

How has your fall kick-off been?

Until next time!

hello, alexandria

So I had the lovely pleasure of meeting Lisa of hello, suburbia this past Sunday. She's from the DC area too and we've been trying to get together all summer but crazy life kept getting in the way. We met up in Old Town Alexandria and wandered the quaint, colorful streets window shopping and taking pictures with quite a few curious, freaked out looks from passerbys. I'm pretty sure they're all thinking- "egomaniacs?" haha ohhh blogging.

We found this old ice house on some random side street. A gem of a find! And then the stoop below belonged to a guy who happened to come home at exactly the wrong moment... haha oops.

what i wore: plaid

021b

This is one of my favorite shirts of all time & I thought I'd share with you some of the ways I've worn it. I love plaid on girls, on boys, in flannel, on cotton. It's like Bubba Gump's shrimp- there's a million ways to use it.

unusual inspiration: alcatraz

While in San Francisco, we visited the island of Alcatraz which was absolutely fascinating and what I wasn't expecting, gorgeous! There's this rundown beauty to the buildings with layers of paint peeling away to reveal other colors and textures. The flowers are all in bloom and the water is a beautiful blue. *Photos by yours truly :)

alcatraz two

Autumn is my favorite season by far- it means a) my birthday, 21st this year! b) Halloween c) crunchy, warm hued leaves d) apple cider e) Wake Forest's lovely campus f) hitting the books, I have to say I've missed it a little. Although I'm sure after just a week or so I'll be singing a much different tune. But hey, who doesn't love getting new school supplies and decorating their dorms/apts?

easy does it

024b

Goodbye beach, I hate to leave you. But all good things must come to an end. Don't you just hate that? But, c'est la vie and all that good stuff.

Looking ahead, I've got one more week of work with my final presentation of data findings on Tuesday! Eeek wish me luck :) Then a couple weeks left of summer with tons of stuff that I'm trying to fit in and a long weekend with my boyfriend and his family. And then back to school for another year, my LAST year. Can you believe it? If you can, that makes one of us. I swear just yesterday I was a teensy freshman with no clue (yeah yeah I know, I'm still teensy). My life has changed in immeasurable ways since autumn four years ago. I never could have imagined, but that's the fun of it all right?

Man, I'm getting nostalgic just thinking about everything.

My life changed forever my freshman year when my mom died. It's something that you can never reverse and it touches every aspect of who you are like a ripple effect. My college career has never just been about academia- being a student was secondary to my simultaneous journey out of grief. I had my first real boyfriend who saved me from drowning in sadness and giving up. I swear I would not have had the courage to continue at Wake if it hadn't been for him. We had a wonderful three years and then it was time to move on. I studied abroad in Barcelona and grew even further. I became more self-aware and proud of my identity- my strengths and my flaws- than I have ever been in my life.

And now I'm here. I'm dating someone new and he's just as wonderful in completely different ways. So here we go- making predictions and pinning hopes on another year, but if there's anything that I take away from all this, it's that you never can know. So I look forward to the unknown. I'm sure it's bound to be a whirlwind adventure!
